Cold emails or spam emails, sometimes called spam mail, are unsolicited messages sent to you with no prior warning. They are a form of marketing that is very effective but can also be incredibly harmful if you open one and read it. Most people think that all you have to do is reply to the email and the problem is solved. That’s wrong!

Firstly, there’s the annoyance. If you open this email thinking it’s a valuable marketing opportunity and you want to take part in it, you’ll probably get very angry. Then, you’ll get even angrier when you discover that it was just a fake email trying to sell you something and you’ll close the email and block the person from your email list.

You’ll never know who got that email and it might end up costing you a client. Secondly, not everyone you receive an email from is going to be a prospective buyer. It depends on whether the email was sent by a spammer or a marketing company.

When you’re marketing a product or service, you need to focus on people who are potentially interested in what you have to offer. If you send the same email to several hundred people, you’re just wasting your time.

Thirdly, some emails, called SPAM emails, don’t actually spam emails. They contain a subject line that describes the message and is a very vague description of the content to follow. The email doesn’t tell you much about the value they have to offer and is more focused on selling a product.

There’s nothing wrong with SPAM emails so long as you don’t pass them on to others. However, if you don’t treat these emails with any particular respect, you could be opening yourself up for legal action. If you’re unsure whether the email you’re about to open is spam, don’t click on the link – and certainly don’t open it!

Fourthly, some marketers use canned responses to their emails. These are responses that simply explain that you’ve received their email and you’re going to give them your email address. This is completely unacceptable and can be considered spam. If you don’t know how to formulate a professional response, this may not be the best option.

Fifthly, some marketers rely on junk emails for leads. Junk emails, also known as spam emails, are unwanted emails that are sent to a marketer with little or no reason and usually with an ulterior motive. You need to provide a good reason why you’re contacting a marketer – whether that be for a sale or other reason – and the person sending this email should go nowhere without you giving them your email address. Sixth, there are some marketers that use what is known as auto-responders.

These are programs or software tools that will automatically respond to any emails that are sent to a marketer’s email address. It is not a good idea for a marketer to allow this type of email to go out and respond to every email that comes in. This is a sure-fire way to lose a potential sale because these emails are generally unsolicited and send out spam.

You do not want to send out an email for a product to market to people who don’t care about the product. Finally, as previously mentioned, if you must use an auto-responder, you should go through the process of selecting the right one and not use a program or tool that will cause more work for you.
